How we test smart home claims

Unhooked v1 is source-led editorial research. We do not claim hands-on product testing unless an article explicitly says so.

Primary-source first

We prioritize official documentation from platforms, standards bodies, and manufacturers. Marketing pages are treated as weaker evidence than integration docs, security docs, protocol docs, and support pages.

Control path over logos

We look for where commands, automations, device state, setup, firmware updates, and remote access happen. A logo such as Matter, Thread, Zigbee, or Works with Alexa is not enough by itself.

No hidden testing claims

If we have not installed a device, paired it, measured fallback behavior, or run an outage test, we say the article is editorial research only.

Review cadence

Articles include reviewed dates, update notes, and source lists. Smart home platform behavior changes, so guides are written to be revisited when standards, integrations, or vendor policies change.
